Go Head to Head with Performance

Not all five-passenger, four-door sedans are exactly alike, and the differences between the Sentra and Focus are stark when it comes to performance. We compare the Sentra's two engine options against the two engines across the Focus's S, SE, SEL, and Titanium trims — we're ignoring the two engines for the performance-minded ST and RS hatchback trims.

The Sentra comes fitted with a dynamic 1.8-liter engine to power your Baxter commute. It has 124 horsepower and 125 lb-ft torque on the manual option and 130 horsepower and 128 lb-ft torque on the Xtronic CVT®. The Focus's 1.0L EcoBoost 123 horsepower and 125 lb-ft torque for both the manual and automatic, making it weaker on both fronts.

If you crave more, the Sentra SR Turbo models have you covered with a 1.6-liter turbocharged DiG engine that has 188 horsepower and 177 lb-ft torque! Yet again, our engine beats the Focus's 2.0L with 160 horsepower and 146 lb-ft torque. Estimated fuel ratings are also better on the Sentra, so you'll pay less to drive around Breezy Point.

Technology and Passenger Comfort Comparison

The new Sentra offers many advantages over the new Focus. It starts with performance metrics, and continues to include convenience and overall comfort for your Baxter expeditions. The new Sentra comes equipped with steering wheel audio and cruise controls at all trim levels, unlike the Focus. The Sentra sedan also offers an available Bose® Premium Audio System, a high-quality feature not available for the Focus.

As of the 2018 model year, all Sentra models with Xtronic CVT® (minus the top-level NISMO®) come with automatic emergency braking, which you also cannot get on the Focus at all!

Additionally, this sedan offers more passenger volume, legroom, and cargo volume than its Ford sedan counterpart. Enjoy 42.5 inches of front legroom, 37.4 inches of rear legroom, and 15.1 cubic feet of interior cargo volume in the new Sentra. In comparison, the Focus offers only 33.2 inches of rear legroom and 13.2 cubic feet of interior cargo volume, though the front leg room does beat the Sentra at 43.1 inches.

Sentra vs Hyundai Elantra

Sentra vs Hyundai Elantra

The Nissan Sentra is an affordable and attractive sedan that appeals to college students and young professionals who want a good vehicle to drive around Baxter or Pequot Lakes. Of course, we know you're likely looking at other competing models, which is why we're going to compare the Nissan Sentra to the Hyundai Elantra!

Performance and Space

The Sentra has two engines: a 1.8L with 124 horsepower or a 1.6L turbo direct injection engine with 188 horsepower. 1.8L comes as a manual, but you can get an Xtronic CVT® transmission, which is standard on the other trims. The Elantra has a 1.4L with 128 horsepower, a 2.0L with 147 horsepower, and a 1.6L with 201 horsepower. The competition may have a stronger and larger engine lineup, but you cannot get a CVT transmission with the Elantra, and that is the way a lot of automakers are heading.

The Sentra also has 15.1 cubic foot trunk, compared to the Elantra's 14.4 cubic foot space. If you want a weekend away from Little Falls, you can pack more stuff with the Sentra!

Safety Features

All Sentra's with Xtronic CVT® transmission have standard crash avoidance technology in the form of automatic emergency braking. You won't find this feature on the Elantra until you hit the top Limited trim and even then you need to add on the trim's Ultimate Package to get it and that costs more than $4,000! We don’t think we need to do the math on that difference. The Sentra's base also comes with a rearview camera and that is only an option on the Elantra's entry trim.

Appearance Packages

Want extra flair as you drive around Breezy Point? The Sentra is already quite attractive, but if you get the Midnight Editions you'll find black interior accents and badging. You won't find any appearance offerings with the Elantra.
